Norberto Marrero
Norberto Marrero is a printmaker and book artist. He is a graduate of the San Alejandro Art Academy in Havana, and currently lives in Guanabo, Cuba. His work reflects a poetic image, which offers a glimpse into power, class, and gender struggles through metaphors. He also plays with key moments in the history of art, particularly reflected in printmaking, such as the eroticism of the Japanese geisha and Albrecht Durer’s mythical image of the rhinoceros. These images, with their profound poetic and philosophical context, provide interpretations of existence and dream. Dreams in which contemporary man at times gets lost, at times awakens, but to which he never renounces.
Norberto has created a total of 5 artist books thus far. Each one is beautifully embellished with his etchings and woodcuts and bound by hand. Editions of his books can be found in the several important collections throughout the US. He has exhibited his artwork in Cuba, Mexico, Switzerland, Canada, England, Italy, and the US.
